The procedure takes up to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. You’ll be given medication beforehand to manage pain, so plan to have someone take you home afterward. 

Your doctor will start by drawing on your skin to mark the targeted areas of the body that will be treated. Then, they’ll apply the handheld device of the Liposonix system to your skin’s surface and move it across your abdomen and flanks. 

As it heats your subcutaneous fat tissue 1.3 centimeters below the skin, you may feel mild discomfort, warmth, or a prickling sensation, but the treatment shouldn’t harm skin or the surrounding tissues.

Post-treatment recovery downtime is minimal, and you can return to normal activities quickly. You can expect to have bruising, and treated areas may be swollen and sore. Some of these side effects typically resolve within a week, but some patients may take more than two weeks.

You’ll be able to resume your regular exercise routine a week after the Liposonix procedure. 

Over the next three months, your body will flush out the destroyed fat cells. While the treated fat tissue is permanently destroyed, some patients undergo a second treatment session, for optimal results.

While the eliminated fat cells can’t grow back, the fat cells that remain in the treated area can expand if you gain weight. You’ll need to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep up your results long-term.

Liposonix is suitable for targeting and reducing stubborn pockets of fat in various areas of the body. It helps with fat that is resistant to diet and exercise, without the risk of developing paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) – a rare side effect linked to certain other fat reduction treatments. For those who have developed PAH and are not keen on undergoing liposuction, Liposonix can be a helpful solution to treating fatty bulges.

Liposonix is suitable for targeting and reducing fat in areas such as:

Liposonix permanently disrupts the fat cells in the treatment area. One treatment is recommended in the area, which takes about an hour depending on the size of the area. Current studies show an average decrease in waist size of 2.5 to 4.6cm after 3 months.

Although some results can be seen in 1-2 weeks, it often takes 3-6 months for the final results to be realised.

Liposonix permanently disrupts fat cells in a target area. With a sensible, healthy diet and lifestyle, results can be permanent. Results vary by the individual.

Liposonix is safe for most healthy adults close to their ideal size, weight (BMI less than 30) and shape – but need realistic help where diet and exercise just won’t work. Patients with BMIs over 30 cannot have Liposonix done.

Liposonix is only suitable for area(s) such as the abdomen, love handles and thighs, or other areas that meet the minimum one inch of pinchable fat – which must be assessed by a doctor, and in person.

As with all medical procedures, you should be sure to disclose all of your medical history and current habits such as smoking and use of blood-thinners, medications, birth control pills, or supplements.

Liposonix is unsuitable in the following circumstances:

• Pregnant, may be pregnant, lactating, or if you are of child-bearing age with a positive pregnancy test before treatment
• A hernia is present in the treatment area
• Have an existing heart condition or high blood pressure

Liposonix is similar to Fat Freeze in that they are non-invasive body contouring treatments, and are not replacements for a healthy lifestyle and exercise, and not meant for weight loss. Liposonix and Fat Freeze are ways to help patients slim that last inch and hit their personal shape goals. The main difference is in the technology used.

Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that sucks out fat from parts of the body. Consequently, downtime for Liposuction is longer compared to Liposonix and Fat Freeze.
