How long do the results last?
What is the difference between Botox and Dermal Filler?
Botox: Freezes muscles to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions typically found in the upper face, such as the forehead and around the eyes.
Dermal Filler: Uses hyaluronic acid and similar substances to add volume to areas that have lost fullness and smoothness typically wrinkles around the mouth, thin lips and cheeks.
Botox results last 4 to 6 months whereas Dermal filler results vary, depending on the type of fillers used.
As Botox and fillers are different substances designed for different uses, they can sometimes be combined in one treatment.
What can Dermal Filler correct?
Different types of dermal fillers are designed to treat varying signs of aging due to the loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin. Depending on the filler selected, they may be used for :
- filling in wrinkles, fine lines and deep creases
- improving or softening the look of recessed scars
- plumping up thin or wrinkled lips
- plumping up cheeks
- contouring the jaw line and other areas of the face
- decrease or remove the shadow or wrinkle around the eyes
Dermal filler risks and considerations
Dermal fillers are considered to be safe but side effects may still occur. The most common problems include:
- skin rash, itching, or pimple-like eruptions
- redness, bruising, bleeding or swelling
- undesirable appearance (asymmetry, lumps or over-correction of wrinkles)
- skin damage that causes a wound, infection or scarring
- ability to feel the filler substance under the skin
- blindness or other vision problems
- death of skin cells due to loss of blood flow to the area
