Botox ANTI-AGING

Botox

Botox is the trade name for Botulinum toxin, a substance that is injected into the muscle to inhibit muscle movement. It is commonly used for reducing dynamic wrinkles, often called “expression lines” and rejuvenating the aging face. It can also be used to contour the shape of the face and muscles.

What is Botox used for?

Botox is widely used for aesthetic purposes. However, it also has the ability to treat excessive sweating, migraines and muscular disorders. Botox does not actually erase lines but relaxes them.

How does Botox work?

Cosmetic Botox injections work by blocking the nerve signals to muscles. When the nerve signals are blocked, the muscles become more relaxed and this helps to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

What should I take note of after Botox?

Try to avoid strenuous activity for several hours after injection. Do not massage the injection sites for one day.

How long before can the results be seen?

Once Botox is injected, the effects on the muscles usually become apparent within a few hours with the main effects appearing after about a week.

How long does Botox last?

Botox freezes muscle movement and this effect lasts for 4-6 months. To maintain the look, patients are encouraged to continue with Botox once to twice a year.

What are the risks?

Risks are very minor with this procedure. However, patients should always bear in mind that this procedure is undertaken by a qualified medical professional to ensure that the correct amount is injected in the right area.

Visiting someone without the correct qualifications and experience could lead to asymmetrical results, muscle drooping, frozen expressions as well as various other dangerous consequences.

Are there any side-effects to Botox?

Some light bruising or redness around the area of injection might occur and this should not last long. If carried out professionally, side effects are generally minimal.

Many patients are able to undergo Botox during their lunch break and go back to work without one noticing.

What happens if I discontinue with Botox?

Your lines will come back. Once Botox is discontinued, the muscles in the treated area will begin to function normally again – the aging process will too.

Are there any contraindications?

Botox is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients who have certain health conditions or those who are on certain medications should consult their dermatologist to discuss if Botox is safe for them.
